Keyword Stuffing is when you take a whole bunch of keywords and pack it into your website in hoping to be discovered by search engines. Some Webmasters would even insert keywords that has nothing to do with the relevancy of that web page. You see, in the old days of search engines (about less then 5 years!) search engines use Keywords hidden in a META tag inside a web page to look for relevant pages for the user using that keyword search . It was efficient and made a lot of sense. However, as news got around the webmaster communities, and some do-it-yourself er, this method became abused. Everyone began stuffing every keywords known to mankind. So, when Joe, who decided to learn more about "mountain bike" in a search engine winds up getting "baseball bat" or "uni-cycle" web sites as parts of the results. He's wasting time having to flip through all these irrelevant web pages to find pages about "mountain bike".
Search Engines take pride in accurate search engine result page (SERP). After all, if Search Engines are to be successful, they need to be accurate in order for their customers to return. So they changed their tactics in searching for web sites. Most Search Engines stopped using META tag keywords and resorted to other methods. Some even punished websites that have keyword stuffing methods by moving them lower in a search (SERP).
